My Carthaginian army for ADLG is largely miniatures from Forged in Battle, with some miniatures from Xyston and Baueda. I chose Forged in Battle miniatures because they had good reviews, I had seen and liked the WW2 minis, and they were well priced.
To start my ADLG Carthaginian army I ordered a Forged in Battle box set. The box sets normally contain the equivalent of 5 packs of miniatures plus a general for the cost of 4 packs. The WE-BOX03 CARTHAGE box set consists of the following figures.
1x General (Hannibal)
12x Carthaginian Heavy Cavalry (from WE-CA01)
64x Carthaginian Unarmoured African Foot (from WE-CA02)
16x Carthaginian Libyan Skirmishers (from WE-CA04)
12x Carthaginian Balearic Slingers (from WE-CA04)
For ADLG you don't use all the infantry in the box set, so buying 4 packs of miniatures instead would have worked just as well. However if I ever want to play Sword and Spear they will come in handy.
I followed this up with the following from Forged in Battle
6x Carthaginian & Numidian Generals (WE-G20)
12x Numidian Light Cavalry (WE-NU01)
2x Carthaginian Elephants (WE-CA05)
12x Carthaginian Heavy Cavalry with Unarmoured horse (WE-CA11)
24x Celtic Warriors (WE-GA05)
24x Celtic Warriors (WE-GA05)
24x Celtic and Gallic Warband-II (WE-GA10)
24x Italians (WE-RA01 Etruscan Hoplites, pilum)
I also added the following models from other manufacturers
16x Spanish Scutarii (2 x Xyston ANC20037)
16x Ligurian spearmen (2 x Baueda AUC23)
16x Ligurian axemen (2 x Baueda AUC31)
Note that when I purchased the Ligurian's that Forged in Battle didn't have them. Since then they have released the WE-CA12 Ligurian Foot. I would have purchased these in preference to the Baueda figures which are slightly smaller than the rest of my army.
Total cost for the miniatures was about AUD$ 300 (including shield transfers and postage) for an approximately 300 points army. I did have the advantage of a couple of sales whilst I was collecting them.
Even though my army was completed I couldn't help myself from buying more figures. Some Celtic cavalry (WE-GA03 Celtic Unarmoured Cavalry) provides me an alternative to the Carthaginian cavalry, if I wanted to differentiate between ordinary and elite medium cavalry. Also it gives me extra figures that I would need in 300pts games.
